Summer Is Here & So Is The Heat
As the temperature begins to rise to a mid summer swelter, Arista is busy maintaining, installing, and repairing the systems that keep all of our customers cold. But as we all turn down the temperatures on our thermostats, Arista has a few tips to keep both businesses and premier residential customers comfortable with their cooling costs.
According to the ACCA, there are many little things you can do to optimize your HVAC efficiency, which not only decreases your utility bills but conserves our natural resources.
1) Keep The Hot Air Out And The Cold Air In
This seems simple and yet how many gushes of cold air do you feel as you walk the city streets. If you’re a building owner or have a large residential property this can mean big expenditures each month. In addition to common sense insulation there are many things you can do to keep your cold air from escaping, such as investing in vinyl- or wood-clad insulated (thermopane) windows and storm windows and doors.
2) Cool Smartly
Energy and cost savings is all about choices and making some simple and smart choices now can help you achieve both. To make sure you have an efficient commercial HVAC system in New York City and beyond, it’s also important to set the thermostat at the highest comfortable level in the summer and the lowest during winter. One degree can change your energy consumption up to 4%.
Some other smart ways to decrease energy output and heat transfer include installing a programmable thermostat to automatically adjust the temperature at night or when you’re on vacation; and keeping blinds and shades closed to repel excess solar heat.
Finally, your indoor lighting could be significant sources of indoor heat, which can make your AC work harder in the summer months. Replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents can help with this as they use considerably less energy, produce less heat, and last longer. They will also have an impact on your overall energy use and costs.
3) Maintain Your HVAC System
Arista recommends regular maintenance to maximize HVAC efficiency as well as cleaning and replacing filters periodically. It’s also important to make sure room vents are working properly; keep them half open in less trafficked rooms, and never obstruct their airflow with furniture or window treatments.
